After working for years in different sales potions, I found myself 50lbs over weight at 39 years old and being medicated for high blood pressure. This was alarming since heart disease runs in both sides of my family. I decided at that moment I needed a life style change.
I joined the fitness industry and hired my own personal trainer. Over the next 7 months I dropped 64lbs and competed in my first body building competition.
I left the industry in 07’ to work from home and raise my family, while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle and continuing to compete in body building and physic competitions. I still had clients that were upset that I left and my passion drove me back to work in the fitness industry. I enjoy helping people not be victims of their bodies. I competed spring 16’ at the age of 55. I plan on competing again at the age of 60. I’m certified with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and have a total of 15 years of training in the fitness industry.

After three years working as an aide in an outpatient physical therapy clinic locally in Boise and approaching graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science from Boise State University, I was ready for a career where I could utilize my experience to benefit others.
My philosophy is simple and focuses on continual lifelong learning as I work towards enhancing the well-being of my clients by empowering them with the knowledge, skills, support, guidance and resources based in science to motivate and inspire them on their journey to a healthier lifestyle. Together we will transform your quality of life through active participation in regular fitness activities and the integration of guided fitness programs, to make your health goals become a reality, in a thoughtful, fun, and dynamic environment. Time and time again, I’m reminded of the positive effects exercise has on our physical and psychological well-being, and my appreciation for what our bodies and minds can achieve is ever increasing.
My credentials include the National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer and currently working toward my National Academy of Sports Medicine Corrective Exercise Specialist. Recently I received my certification by the American Heart Association in the BLS provider CPR/AED.
In addition, I am a Certified Alpine Level One Professional Ski Instructor of America with 18 years of experience in teaching, and 8 years’ experience as the Director of a Snow Sports School. At 34 years old, I live by the moto, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” ~C.S. Lewis

Cari Bio Pic
My name is Cari Powers and my fitness journey started in 2005. As a bridesmaid in my brother's wedding, I was the biggest girl in the group and when the pictures came back, I didn't even recognize myself. I looked happy, but I wasn't. I was trying to make myself smaller to blend in with the people around me. I knew then that I had to change. I joined a small gym and a local Weight Watchers meeting and things have never been the same since. I lost 80 pounds within a year and although there have been ups and downs since, I've maintained a 50 pound weight loss for the last decade.
I worked at a gym to put myself through college, selling memberships, teaching aerobics, and personal training. When I graduated, I went straight into corporate life and the weight started creeping back. I realized that it wasn't the stress of corporate life that was bringing back some old, unhealthy habits. Instead, it was the fact that I didn't feel fulfilled. I wasn't truly helping people in the same immediately rewarding way that I used to when I worked in a gym. I couldn't wait to get back into the fitness industry. I updated all my certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and got on the hunt!
In my time at the Grove Fitness Club & Spa, I've taken on strength conditioning and cycling classes, and added many clients to my personal training roster. As a trainer, I tend to focus on balance and core strength as a fundamental that is often overlooked. I combine balance, core, and flexibility with traditional strength training for the most efficient workouts possible. Of course every program is designed specifically for particular clients and their individualized goals, abilities, and inclinations. I firmly believe that exercise and nutrition programs have to be enjoyable and realistic (read: not too strict! not 2 hours a day!) for long-term change to happen. I have a strong passion for helping women and first-time exercisers, or anyone who might find the gym environment intimidating. When you're ready for results, I would love to help you get them!!!

Throughout my adult life, I have had the opportunity to travel extensively and interact with many diverse populations. I have always really enjoyed the opportunity to learn from and connect with others.
As a former journalist, I learned how to ask questions and really listen to what my sources were telling me.   Eventually I realized that I was still missing out on how I could best serve others.   Armed with the skills of being a strong listener and observer, I decided to put down my lap top and pick up a kinesiology book.
It was with that I made the choice to enroll in a massage therapy program at Broadview University, and I've never looked back.   Though I am new to the industry, I am surrounded by spectacular resources and a tireless urge to learn more so that I can continue to serve a diverse client base.   Being part of the team at The Grove Fitness and Spa has been incredible so far, and I look forward to continuing to grow and serve all of my clients with the highest quality care possible.
